There's something about a Nancy Meyers movie that makes you want to move right into the house on the screen. The beautiful House Sprucing furniture, soft colors, fresh flowers, and spaces that somehow feel both perfectly styled and completely lived in. Every room feels like it has a story to tell.
That was exactly the feeling we wanted to capture with our latest House Sprucing project.
Welcome to The Nancy Meyers Project, a home filled with classic details, beautiful House Sprucing furnishings, and inviting spaces designed for real life. We're taking you room by room through this home, sharing the design decisions, furnishings, and finishing touches that brought it all together.
And we're starting with one of our favorite spaces: the formal living room.
A Home with a Story
One of the things that makes this project particularly special to our team is the family behind it.
Years ago, these clients first discovered House Sprucing through our television show, Design Twins, on UPtv. We had the opportunity to help design their home then, and over the years, that relationship continued.
When they began a new chapter in a new home, they invited our team back to help bring their vision to life.
This time, the goal was to create a home that felt timeless, welcoming, and full of personality. They wanted beautiful spaces that could be enjoyed every day, not rooms that looked lovely but were too precious to actually live in.
With its charming architectural details and classic character, the home already had an incredible foundation. Our job was to build on that character through carefully selected House Sprucing furnishings, thoughtful color palettes, beautiful textiles, and custom House Sprucing window treatments that would make every room feel complete.
The result is our own take on the Nancy Meyers aesthetic: a little East Coast charm, a little European influence, and plenty of warmth.
The Living Room: Where Timeless Meets Comfortable
Our vision was a space that felt elevated enough for entertaining but comfortable enough for everyday conversations, afternoon tea, or gathering with family and friends for boardgames.
The room's existing brick fireplace and built-in shelving provided beautiful architectural character. Rather than compete with those details, we chose furnishings that complemented them while introducing softness, color, and a sense of effortless elegance.
It's a balance that really defines the Nancy Meyers-inspired look. Nothing feels overly formal or too perfectly matched, but every piece has been intentionally selected to work together.
A Powder-Blue Sofa That Steals the Show
Every room needs a starting point, and in this living room, it's the gorgeous powder-blue velvet sofa, which is part of our House Sprucing custom upholstery collection available through our showroom.
We love incorporating color into timeless interiors, and blue is one of those shades that can feel both classic and fresh. This particular shade introduces personality without overpowering the room.
The velvet upholstery adds a soft, luxurious texture, while the tailored silhouette keeps the overall look sophisticated. It’s not only perfect for the design, but also functional for a family with young children and pets. It’s soft, comfortable, beautiful, and family-friendly!
To balance the blue, we incorporated cream upholstered seating, creating a light and inviting furniture arrangement. A generous dark wood coffee table anchors the space and introduces the contrast needed to keep the room from feeling overly delicate.
That combination of soft upholstery and rich wood tones is one of our favorite ways to create a collected, layered interior.
The seating arrangement also makes the room feel approachable. We think about how people will actually use the space. Where will guests sit? How will conversations flow? Does the room feel inviting when you walk in?
Beautiful furniture matters, but how that furniture works together matters just as much.
Layering Pattern Without Overwhelming the Room
One of the defining elements of this project is the mix of patterns, textures, and traditional details.
In the living room, a blue-toned floral House Sprucing rug brings the furniture together while adding movement and visual interest. Its classic pattern complements the sofa without competing with it.
From there, we introduced House Sprucing layered pillows, soft textiles, and coordinating accents that give the space personality.
The secret to mixing patterns successfully is knowing when to let something stand out and when to give the eye a place to rest.
By keeping the larger upholstered pieces relatively simple, we could introduce more pattern through the rug, pillows, and window treatments. The result feels interesting and collected rather than busy.
This is also where thoughtful furniture sourcing becomes so important. It's not just about finding individual pieces you love. It's about understanding scale, color, proportion, texture, and how everything will work together in the finished room.
At House Sprucing, our designers help homeowners make those decisions with a complete vision in mind, creating spaces that feel cohesive without looking like everything came from the same furniture collection.
Custom Window Treatments: The Detail That Changes Everything
If there's one design element we wish more homeowners would prioritize, it's custom window treatments.
Throughout The Nancy Meyers Project, custom House Sprucing drapery plays an important role in bringing warmth, softness, and personality to the interiors. And the living room is a beautiful example.
We incorporated custom floral House Sprucing drapery to complement the room's palette and introduce another layer of timeless pattern.
Window treatments have the ability to transform the feeling of an entire room. They soften architectural lines, frame natural light, add visual height, and make a space feel intentionally finished.
They're also an opportunity to introduce beautiful fabrics that might feel overwhelming on a larger piece of furniture.
Custom House Sprucing window treatments are one of the many services we offer at House Sprucing, and they're something our designers consider as part of the overall room design rather than an afterthought.
Because sometimes it's the finishing details that make the biggest difference.
The Art of a Collected Home
One of our favorite things about Nancy Meyers-inspired interiors is that they never feel like they were decorated all at once.
There's a sense of history and personality, even when many of the furnishings are newly selected. We wanted to create that same feeling in this living room.
Rather than filling every surface, we focused on carefully chosen pieces that complement the furnishings and make the room feel personal. That's one of the reasons professional styling can have such an impact. The right accessories, artwork, and decorative details can take a beautifully furnished room and make it feel like home.
It's also proof that timeless design doesn't have to be boring. A home can be classic while still incorporating color, personality, and a little unexpected charm.
Creating Your Own Nancy Meyers-Inspired Home
The beauty of this design style is that it isn't about following a specific trend or recreating a movie set.
It's about creating a home that feels warm, welcoming, and entirely your own.
You don't need to replace every architectural detail or begin a major remodel to achieve that feeling. Often, the biggest transformation comes from thoughtfully selected furnishings, beautiful rugs, custom window treatments, and the right finishing touches.
For this project, our team used those elements to create a living room that's polished without feeling precious, colorful without being trendy, and beautiful without sacrificing comfort.
And that's exactly what we love most about it.
A well-designed home should be somewhere you're excited to entertain, but also somewhere you love spending an ordinary Tuesday afternoon.
