The Lake House Reveal: Downstairs Bathroom

If you’ve been following along on The Lake House journey—welcome back! You’ve seen our cozy bunk room, our dreamy primary suite, and that wallpaper moment in the dining nook. But today, we’re giving a peek inside one of the hardest-working spaces in the house: the Downstairs Secondary Bathroom.

This space had one big goal: work hard without looking like it does. With four kids sharing this bathroom, it needed to be incredibly functional while still feeling cohesive with the design story of the rest of the home. Tight on square footage? Definitely. Big on personality and purpose? Absolutely. Another important aspect? This needed to function as a wet room space, since we’re on the lake. We accomplished this by having tile go up the walls, to make it super practical for wet kiddos.

We leaned into clean lines, smart fixtures, and layered neutrals with depth and texture to make this space feel calm, not cramped. Design tip: when square footage is limited, intentional lighting and streamlined finishes go a long way in making the space feel open and elevated.

Let’s give a round of applause to our design partners that helped us bring this room to life:

  • Maxim Lighting – lighting that’s both practical and polished

  • Nostalgic Warehouse - the electrical plates and towel hooks that add so much charm

  • Ann Sacks - the tile on both the floor and the wall. This was a collab with Studio Mcgee they did

  • Moen – high-quality plumbing fixtures that bring everyday luxury, as well as the dreamy towel rack

  • Kohler – sleek mirrors that bounce light and double the charm, and this gorgeous vanity

This room proves that even shared bathrooms can feel like a retreat—with the right planning, smart finishes, and just the right design eye.
